E-scooters and Micro Mobility

On 4 June, as part of the SAFER project, we organized a workshop at Žirovnica Primary School and III. general secondary school in Maribor, aimed at raising awareness among young people about the safe use of e-scooters and micro mobility. The workshop provided students with valuable information and hands-on experiences that promote responsible behavior in traffic.

Workshop Goals
The main objectives were to present traffic regulations, emphasize the importance of protective gear, and raise awareness among students about distractions that threaten safety on the road. Additionally, we encouraged responsible and thoughtful conduct while participating in traffic.

Workshop Outline
The workshop began with introductory questions about modes of transportation and the concept of micromobility, which the students defined themselves. This was followed by a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of e-scooters and an interactive presentation of traffic rules.

Special attention was given to the issue of distractions while driving. Through games and videos, students experienced firsthand how distractions can impact safe participation in traffic.

In the practical part, students had the opportunity to try riding an e-scooter simulator, measure their reaction times, and calculate crash weight at different speeds, clearly illustrating the dangers of collisions.

What participants remembered most was the e-scooter simulator, which presented dangerous traffic situations and required them to react correctly.
