As part of the SAFER project, on 30 May, we organized a workshop at the secondary school Ekonomska šola Murska Sobota.
The workshop has begun with a powerful personal story from an individual injured in a traffic accident. Through their emotional account, students learn about life before and after the incident, highlighting the importance of traffic safety. The story encourages reflection and sparks open discussion.
Next, students explore reasons why young people might consume alcohol and discuss healthy, alcohol-free ways to spend their time. Together, they examine common alcohol myths and determine whether they are fact or fiction.
Students are then introduced to the concept of crash weight—calculating the force their body would exert in a collision at 30, 50, and 90 km/h. This visual exercise clearly demonstrates the impact of speed.
Interactive activities follow, including reaction time testing and a distraction game, which reveals how easily focus can be lost in traffic situations. The workshop combines real-life stories with practical learning to leave a lasting impression on young minds.
The participants found the injured person’s story the most engaging, as well as all the practical activities. They would recommend the workshop to other students as well.
