SAFER Programme: Road Safety Content Now Available in Slovenian Driving Schools

The educational programme developed as part of the SAFER project (co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, Project No. 2023-1-BG01-KA220-YOU-000150722) is aimed at young drivers and driving licence candidates. The programme encourages conscious decision-making, sober driving, and responsible behaviour in traffic. Its main goal is to raise awareness about the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which is one of the leading causes of traffic accidents among young people.

We recognise that youth is a time of decisions, habit formation, and the search for independence. Driving is often one of the first symbols of adulthood, but it also comes with great responsibility. Poor decisions on the road can be fatal, which is why it is crucial for young people to develop an early understanding of the consequences of irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel.

To ensure the programme reaches as many young people as possible, we distributed the SAFER educational programme to all driving schools in Slovenia. We invited them to integrate the programme into their road traffic regulations training, where young people can:

  • Watch real-life stories of individuals who have experienced traffic accidents,
  • Discuss the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
  • Reflect on personal and collective responsibility for safety,
  • Build awareness of the importance of sober and thoughtful driving.

The programme is based on true stories, the emotional power of storytelling, and active youth engagement. We believe that recognising the problem and engaging in open discussion leads to change – both in thinking and in actual behaviour on the road.

By sharing the SAFER programme with driving schools across Slovenia, we aim to create an environment where safe driving is taught not only technically, but also in the context of values, responsibility, and mutual respect. Every new driver should begin their driving journey with a clear understanding: every decision matters.
